About FruitPlatterAU
Passionate about fresh produce, dedicated to helping you create memorable gatherings.
Our Story
FruitPlatterAU was born from a simple observation at a family Christmas gathering in Sydney back in 2019. Our founder, Sarah Mitchell, noticed that despite everyone's best intentions, the fruit platter was always the last thing to be prepared and the first to look tired and wilted under the hot Australian sun. That afternoon sparked a question: why don't more people know how to create fruit presentations that stay fresh, look beautiful, and actually get eaten?
What started as a hobby of researching fruit preservation techniques and presentation styles quickly grew into something much larger. Sarah began documenting her experiments with different cutting techniques, storage methods, and arrangement patterns. She tested which fruits held up best at outdoor events, discovered the optimal timing for preparation, and learned the subtle art of colour coordination that makes a platter truly eye-catching.
In 2021, after countless barbecues, birthday parties, and corporate catering events, Sarah assembled a small team of like-minded food enthusiasts. Together, we launched FruitPlatterAU with a clear mission: to become Australia's most trusted resource for everything related to fresh fruit presentation.
What We Do
Today, our team spends countless hours testing products, researching best practices, and creating comprehensive guides that help everyday Australians elevate their entertaining. We visit farmers' markets from Cairns to Hobart, speak with growers and produce specialists, and stay current with food safety regulations from Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
Our content covers everything from basic fruit selection and ripeness testing to advanced garnishing techniques using a proper tourne knife. We understand that not everyone has access to professional catering equipment, so we focus on practical advice that works with standard kitchen tools and locally available produce from Woolworths, Coles, or your neighbourhood greengrocer.
We're particularly proud of our Australian focus. While much of the information online about fruit platters comes from Northern Hemisphere sources, we recognise that Australian entertaining has unique challenges. Our summer Christmas celebrations, outdoor lifestyle, and distinct seasonal produce calendar require specific expertise. When we talk about stone fruit season, we mean December through February. When we discuss food safety in the heat, we understand what 40-degree days actually feel like.
Our Commitment to You
We believe that beautiful food brings people together. A thoughtfully prepared fruit platter isn't just about nutrition—it's about showing care for your guests, creating conversation starters, and adding vibrant colour to any table. Whether you're preparing a simple after-school snack for the kids, an elaborate grazing table for a wedding, or a corporate morning tea, we're here to help you succeed.
Our reviews are honest and based on real-world testing. When we recommend a particular serving board or cutting tool, it's because we've actually used it at events and can vouch for its quality. We never accept payment for positive reviews, and we clearly disclose any affiliate relationships so you can make informed decisions.
Thank you for being part of our community. We're honoured to play a small role in your celebrations and gatherings. If you have questions, feedback, or just want to share a photo of your latest platter creation, we'd love to hear from you through our contact page.
